Director of Engineering– Houston, TX
ITD Precision Houston is currently seeking a Director of Engineering.
SUMMARY
Leads our tool and die engineering, tool fabrication, tool maintenance, program management, and new product development
teams. The ideal candidate will drive innovation, ensure successful project execution, and align
engineering efforts with our company’s strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage all engineering, tooling, and technical activities, ensuring projects are within budget, on time, and production-ready
- Lead and develop engineering teams, including tool & die engineers, tool makers, and program managers
- Manage staffing, training, and supervision of technical personnel
- Coordinate engineering activities with manufacturing functions
- Lead new program quoting to support sales initiatives
- Drive continuous improvement in product development and engineering processes
- Collaborate with customers on new tool requirements and participate in design reviews
- Oversee die maintenance/repair and facility maintenance
- Manage supply chain and inventory for parts and supplies
- Implement and maintain detailed documentation for all tool and die processes
- Champion cost reduction initiatives and efficiency improvements
- Stay current on industry trends and new technologies
- Develop machining capability in-house for the tool & die team and deliver high-quality precision piece parts required to build internal tooling
- Create collaborative business plans with design engineering, upstream production, and support teams and develop and maintain positive supplier/customer relationships
- Work between manufacturing and design engineers, machinists, technicians, and quality personnel to ensure processes are robust and any production problems are quickly solved
- Leverage the latest technologies and programming strategies to reduce in-cycle intervention
- Identify, recommend, procure, and install machine shop equipment as well as ensure all equipment is thoroughly maintained and calibrated
- Research and identify new materials, manufacturing technologies, and finishing options
- Inform estimations of prototype and production manufacturing costs - tooling, secondary assembly, secondary finishing, and piece part
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; advanced degree preferred
- Minimum 10 years of experience in a medium/high volume progressive stamping manufacturing environment
- 10 years of experience in a director or similar role
- 5 years of experience in the Automotive industry
- Strong background in tool and die design, fabrication, and maintenance
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Strong analytical abilities and decision-making capabilities
- Proven track record in project management and cross-functional collaboration
